About the WAA
Since 1952, thousands of students have competed in WASDL speech, debate and Student Congress. The WASDL Alumni Association (WAA) brings former competitors, coaches and judges together to stay connected, celebrate what the activity gave us, and support the students competing today.
Benefits of being a WAA member
Community
WAA members share something only speech and debate people understand: the early bus, the hallway run-throughs, the wait for postings, the thrill of breaking. Whether you competed last spring or in the 1970s, you’re among people who know exactly what a tournament Saturday feels like.
Connections
Wherever college and career take you, the WAA keeps you close to the league that taught you to think on your feet, and to fellow alumni now working in law, government, business, teaching, medicine and more. Stay current on league news, find old teammates and opponents, and meet the students following in your footsteps.

Your first nervous round. The rebuttal that finally landed. The trophy still on the shelf. Speech and debate gave you plenty to be proud of, and WAA membership celebrates all of it, along with the confidence you carried out of the round and into everything since.
